According to the Diocese of San Diego, Fierro was deeply rooted in the Catholic school system in San Diego. He graduated from University High School in 2002, the predecessor to CCHS. Fierro returned to CCHS in 2016 – but this time, as a social science teacher. Fierro was beloved by his students and players. “He really inspired me and that’s part of the reason I wanted to be a history major in college,” one of Fierro’s students told NBC 7 earlier this week. “He definitely taught me some of the most valuable things I know as a teacher and a mentor, and I will be forever grateful.”

Jilted California lover murdered ex-girlfriend s fiancé, say cops

Jilted California lover murdered ex-girlfriend’s fiancé, say cops A jilted boyfriend who felt “betrayed” by his ex-girlfriend allegedly killed her fiancé. Murder suspect Jesse Alvarez was arrested Monday night in San Diego, reported TV station KFMB. Police claim Alvarez, 30, mortally shot teacher Mario Fierro while he was leaving his home Monday morning in what is believed to be a nonrandom attack. The victim died at the scene. Fierro, a social science instructor and and football coach at Cathedral Catholic High School, reportedly recently became engaged to a fellow teacher at Cathedral Catholic. Court records show that Alvarez dated that teacher, who has not been identified, for over three years before she dissolved the relationship in 2019 due to a “pattern of control, manipulation and emotional abuse which increased over time.”
