Since baseball shut down in March of last year, we have kept you posted on what the Yankees have been up to on social media. Although baseball is gradually getting back to normal, it’s still fun to check in our favorite players and Yankee figures, so we will continue to do so throughout 2021. Here’s your weekly update on what your favorite Yankees have been doing on social media!
Kyle Higashioka, part-time catcher, part-time surfer and guitar player
Higgy has seen an increase in playing time within the last week or so. While he’s showed he can contribute to the team, he’s also a man of many talents. From baseball, to riding waves, to playing the guitar, there’s not much Higashioka can’t do. He even learned to speak some Japanese to communicate with former Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

Wednesday marked three months until the start of the Tokyo Olympic baseball tournament assuming the coronavirus doesn’t blow another fastball past the organizers, who, if we’re being honest, are probably sitting on a 2-2 count at best.
Let’s assume, however, the games will take place.
The original plan for Samurai Japan was to use the Premier12 in November 2019 as a final testing ground and head into the Olympics the following summer. That was before the postponement of the games in March 2020.
It’s now been over a year since Samurai Japan’s victory over South Korea in the Premier12 final. The extra time has given manager Atsunori Inaba more things to think about as he goes about building a squad that can capture Japan’s first Olympic gold medal in baseball.

History will be on the line tonight at Yankee Stadium when ace Gerrit Cole takes the mound to open a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.
Per Yankees PR, Cole has 50 strikeouts through his first five starts of the season. That’s the most by any Yankees pitcher in his first five games (or starts) of a season, surpassing Masahiro Tanaka (46 strikeouts in 2014) and Bob Turley (46 strikeouts in 1955).
Jacob deGrom, An Outlier
How Unlucky is Jacob deGrom?
The Mets have sold out Jacob deGrom. They don t hit for him. If he had even average run support, he would basically never lose a game. They are wasting a hall of fame talent in his prime.
We, as Mets fans, hold these truths to be self-evident. But are they? Is deGrom really unique in how often he fails to get a win for an exemplary performance? Or is it just a cognitive bias because deGrom is so good, we notice and track every time things don t fall his way in a way that we are just not tracking for other pitchers?

Former New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka picked up his first win of the season Saturday for the Rakuten Eagles in Japan’s Pacific League.
The win was his first since returning home after completing a seven-year, $155 million deal with the Yankees.
According to the Kyoto News, it was Tanaka’s first win in Japan since 2013 and the 100th of his Japanese career.
Saturday also was Tanaka’s first at Sendai’s Rakuten Seimei Park Miyagi, the Eagles’ home ballpark, since closing out the 2013 Japan Series with a Game 7 save. “I’m home,” Tanaka told the fans afterward. “It feels a little strange, but I’m extremely happy.”
