JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Districts across the state will soon be able to purchase cleaner-burning school buses, thanks to a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
MDEQ recently announced that it had awarded $354,700 to 15 school districts to apply to the purchase of new school buses with “more stringent pollution controls.”
“Not only will the students benefit from a cleaner school bus, but the environment will as well,” said Chris Wells, MDEQ Executive Director.

Someone stole the vintage car from a shop in Prentiss County, according to law enforcement.

(WTVA) - Law enforcement is asking for help locating a car worth $250,000 and those who reportedly stole it.
According to the Northeast Mississippi Crime Stoppers, the theft happened the night of April 17 at a shop on County Road 1290 in the Tuscumbia community of Prentiss County.

BOONEVILLE ⢠Two Prentiss County men have been charged with felonies accused of stealing a car off the side of the road.
According to Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar, two men took a vehicle that was left on the side of the road in Frankstown. They allegedly took it to a local scrap yard and sold it.
The investigation led to Jamie Ray Lewellen, 41, and Martin Hannon, 55, both of Booneville. Lewellen was arrested around 11 p.m. on April 13 at his residence, after he fled from deputies earlier in the day. He was on post-release supervision with the Mississippi Department of Corrections at the time of the arrest. MDOC has placed a hold on him. He was charged with grand larceny and his bond was set at $10,000.
BOONEVILLE - The Prentiss County Sheriff s Office arrested two men on sequential days on felony drug charges.
Chadward Shane Rodgers, 44, of Mooreville, was arrested April 8 at a roadside safety checkpoint and was charged with possession of methamphetamine. During his initial appearance in Prentiss County Justice Court, bond was set at $10,000. The Mississippi Department of Corrections had a hold placed on him for a probation violation and he was transported to Lee County .
The following day, William Brown, 38, of Baldwyn, was pulled over on a traffic stop and charged with conspiracy to sell a controlled substance (Subutex). His bond was set at $10,000. At the time of his arrest, Brown was under house arrest and being supervised by MDOC. He remains in custody at this time.
