Consider lockdown to curb 2nd wave of covid: SC tells Centre and state govts

New Delhi, May 3: The Supreme Court has asked the Union and state governments to consider imposing a ban on mass gatherings and super-spreader events, as well as bring about a lockdown, to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the interest of public welfare .
A three-judge bench, presided over by Justice D Y Chandrachud, made the suggestion in light of the continuing surge of infections in the country. The court asked the Centre and state governments to put on record by May 10 the efforts taken to curb the spread of the virus and the measures that they plan on taking in the near future.
Bitcoin hovered around $58,000 (roughly Rs. 43 lakhs) on Monday.
In related news, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently donated 100 ETH and 100 MKR, worth approximately $606,110 (roughly Rs. 4.5 crores), for use in COVID-19 relief in India. Australian cricketer Brett Lee, too, has donated 1 Bitcoin (roughly Rs. 40 lakhs) to the Crypto Relief Fund to help his “second home” India ensure oxygen supplies for hospitals and win the battle against the raging second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. India has been recording close to 4,00,000 COVID-19 cases daily that has stretched the country s health infrastructure to its limits.

Sydney, May 3 : Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday said that it has pledged an initial donation of $50,000 towards India s fight against the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
CA also said that it is partnering with the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) UNICEF Australia to raise more funds. Australian Cricket has been deeply saddened by the devastation caused by this second coronavirus wave to hit India, a country with which Australians share a strong friendship and connection, it said in a statement.

Sydney, May 3 : Former Australia Test captain Mark Taylor has disagreed with Chris Lynn s demand to Cricket Australia (CA) for a chartered flight to bring IPL players home from India at the conclusion of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians batsman Lynn wants CA to use the 10% amount of an Aussie player s IPL contract it gets from IPL, to fly players back home from India which is reeling under the Covid-19 pandemic. The Australian government has suspended flights from India as fresh Covid-19 daily cases in the country have touched four lakh besides over 3,500 deaths.
