19-year-old driver runs into pole in Hidden Meadows area, suffers major injuries

NORTH COUNTY A 19-year-old woman suffered serious injuries early Wednesday in a crash on a rural road north of Escondido, authorities said. The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. on Old Castle Road near Castle Crest Drive, in the Hidden Meadows area east of Interstate 15, California Highway Patrol Officer Juan Escobar said. The driver was eastbound on Old Castle Road in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer when, for unknown reasons, she swerved and the SUV slammed into a power pole near Castle Crest Drive, Escobar said. The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Palomar Hospital for treatment of major injuries, the officer said. No other injuries were reported.

ESCONDIDO A suspected drunken driver and his passenger suffered serious injuries Thursday morning when the stolen car they were in slammed into the back of a semi truck on Interstate 15 in Escondido, authorities said. The crash happened about 4:10 a.m. on northbound Interstate 15 near Del Lago Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Juan Escobar said. A 32-year-old man was behind the wheel of a stolen 2014 Ford Fusion sedan that crashed into the back of a semi truck while both vehicles were in the far right lane of the highway, Escobar said. The Ford ended up wedged under the semi truck’s trailer, leaving the driver and his 32-year-old passenger trapped in the car, the officer said.
