FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Health officials report methamphetamines are now the leading cause of overdose deaths in the Fargo area, surpassing opioid deaths.
Robyn Litke Sall, Substance Abuse Prevention Director for Fargo Cass Public Health, told Fargo city commissioners there were 42 fatal meth overdoses last year.
Sall said there is no medication-assisted treatment for the drug. She calls it a huge problem and believes the area is on the “cusp” of a worsening problem.
Opioid overdoses have dropped over several years after more Narcan was made available to the public from Fargo Cass Public Health. But the number of opioid overdoses increased in 2020, with 29 opioid overdose deaths.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark Super Bowl Sunday can be a time to hang out with family and friends, and often, alcohol is involved too. That’s why central Arkansas substance abuse specialists are warning parents to be on the lookout for underage drinking.
“A lot of those things occur during these events, like Super Bowl and so forth. We are so concerned about access,” said Joyce Raynor, the Executive Director for Center for Healing Hearts and Spirits.
