Children’s bikes, groceries, clothes and more were given away at a community drive-thru this weekend.
“We put this together in two weeks,” said Lawayne Cherry, who collected donations for the bikes. “Because of the pandemic, we were scared of getting a lot of people together, so we came up with the drive-thru concept.”
A line of cars over a mile long stretched down NE 30th Street on Saturday for the giveaway. Cherry said the giveaway was funded purely through donations.
“It’s joy, the way you feel inside. It’s amazing,” Cherry said. “There’s no better feeling than helping someone in need.”
