Hungary Adds New Amendment to Constitution Defining Marriage as Union of One Man and One Woman
The measure, which passed in Parliament by a vote of 134-45, is the 9
th amendment to the Fundamental Laws of Hungary. It amends Section L, Paragraph 1 of the Fundamental Laws to read “Hungary protects the institution of marriage as the association between a man and a woman and the family as the basis for the survival of a nation. The foundation of the family is marriage and the parent-child relationship. The mother is a woman, the father is a man.”

Six months ago, the Court of Justice of the EU condemned Hungary for the violation of EU law and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights on grounds of its restrictive legislation on the financing of NGOs. With its judgement, the Court made it clear that similar rules, which are essentially aimed at destroying the reputations and finances of independent civil society organisations, are unlawful in the EU.

Lawmakers pass anti-LGBTQ laws in Hungary

Hungarian lawmakers on Tuesday approved a package of new measures targeting the country’s beleaguered LGBTQ community, the government’s latest salvo in defense of “traditional” values.
One law overwhelmingly passed by members of parliament loyal to the nationalist, culturally conservative government of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban effectively bars same-sex couples from adopting children by restricting adoption to married couples.
Exceptions to the ban will have to be approved by the minister for family affairs.

Dec. 15 (UPI) Hungary on Tuesday altered its Constitution to effectively ban adoption by same-sex couples.
The constitutional change allows only married couples and single people who receive special permission from the government to adopt children. Hungary does not permit same-sex marriage.

Previously, gay couples were able to adopt children by having one partner apply as a single person, but the change ended this practice.
