Limerick mother happy she can now talk freely about her murdered son, Brooklyn

Limerick s Live 95 Search By Live95 News Team In 2019, Patrick Dillon, of Dalgaish Park, Moyross, Limerick, stabbed his nephew Brooklyn Colbert  to death. The 28-year-old was jailed in February but he couldn t be identified at the time because of Section 252 of the Children Act. Changes to the law took effect last week and with the order now lifted, Brooklyn s mother, Sonia Aylmer  is now free to publicly talk about her son. Sonia was part of the campaign to have Section 252 amended so today is a special day for her:

The Children (Amendment) Act 2021 was signed into law by President Michael D Higgins last month after passing in the Dail and the Seanad and came into force last Friday. This means that, following a controversial Court of Appeal ruling in October last year, the law has now been changed to remove the restriction on naming deceased children except in certain exceptional circumstances. In cases where specific orders remain, applications have to be made to the courts by media organisations or relatives in each case to lift those orders.
