THE WASHINGTON POST – Washing down at home isn’t an easy task, because the feathers clump up when damp.
Adding up to three tennis balls to a dryer, then tumbling a just-washed down item until it’s dry helps break up the clumps, but some often remain. To break them up, you need to run the dryer multiple times, and you might need to resort to pinching and pulling at the clumps through the fabric, which can be very time-consuming.
All About Down, a company in Seattle, has a couple of tricks that give better results. It extracts the down, puts it in a temporary case made of relatively porous fabric, then washes it to remove oils, mite remains and other grime.

Montanari becomes chief people officer, Vannoy expands merchandising role to promotions
Dana Montanari has been elevated to chief people officer and Darrell Vannoy to senior vice president of merchandising and promotion at PCC Community Markets.
PCC said yesterday that both Montanari and Vannoy will report to President and CEO Suzy Monford, who joined the Seattle-based grocery retail cooperative in December from The Kroger Co.
Previously, Montanari served as vice president of human resources and Vannoy as vice president of merchandising and procurement.
“Dana and Darrell bring decades of expertise to their PCC service and exemplify the best of the co-op’s vision, mission and values,” Monford said in a statement. “They have been extraordinary contributors during their tenure and are steadfast in their commitment to leading PCC in our advocacy for people, planet and profit.”
