Raheem Bowden
A resident of the Ladyville community located in the Belize District is lucky to be at home after he was arraigned on drug related charges. 21-year-old Raheem Bowden, however, did not escape large fines after pleading guilty to three counts of possession of controlled drugs. It is reported that inside his home, police found 30.8 grams of cannabis as well as 1.3 grams and 6.1 grams of crack cocaine. At the time of the discovery, Bowden was inside the home along with three others, including a minor. All four people were arraigned before Magistrate Khadeen Palmer in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on three counts of possession of a controlled drug but Bowden took ownership for the drugs. As a result, the charges were withdrawn from against the other persons and they were free to go.
Michael Usher
A well-known criminal figure and resident of Pinks Alley, 30-year-old Michael Anthony Usher, has been arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of robbery. He is being accused of robbing a security guard of the National Fisherman Cooperative at gunpoint and making off with $380. The incident dates back to Saturday, February 13, 2021 while Edwardo Castro was on duty. Usher allegedly visited the building under the pretense of purchasing fish before turning on the security guard. He pushed Castro into the bathroom and held him at gunpoint before demanding his cash. Fearing for his life, Castro handed over $380.
Cecil Martinez
A resident of Hattieville accused of obtaining cash by deception from a businessman is out on bail pending trial in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court. 24-year-old Cecil Dale Martinez was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate Court on the charge on Thursday, January 21, 2021. He appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford before whom he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Allegations are that on August 19, 2020, he obtained as much as $2,500 in cash from Chang Pu Lee. There are no details as to the report made against Martinez as to how the theft occurred but luckily for the victim, the report was made just one month shy of the matter being viewed as statue-barred. In cases such as theft and obtaining property by deception, charges must be levied within a six-month period.
