HARRISBURG â When Republican state Rep. Jim Gregory learned Monday from Gov. Tom Wolf that an administrative error will delay a decision on whether survivors can sue for decades-old sexual abuse, he broke down and sobbed uncontrollably.
âThatâs where I had to leave it with him â to hope he understood the gravity of what this means to victims, to know that we could be so close to achieving something for them that has been decades in wait,â Gregory, a survivor of child sexual abuse, said of his conversation with Wolf. âTo now have to say, again, youâre going to have to wait. I would believe that my emotions mirrored the emotions of other victims.â
Some survivors and their advocates believe the quickest way to remedy a Department of State mistake is to abandon the time-consuming path of amending the state constitution and pursue legislation.

Kim Ward didn’t set out to be a politician. She chose to be a respiratory therapist.
But when she crossed paths with a young intern-turned AIDS activist, it sparked an interest in government and how she could play a role in it.
That was a lesson along with a few others, including ones instilled in her by her 82-year-old mother Joanna Renko, that helped Ward secure her place in Pennsylvania history.
