WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The year 2020 has not been kind to those whose chosen artistic expression is done on the stage.
But pandemic or no pandemic, Big Dawg Productions is putting on their beloved Jacob Marleyâs Christmas Carolâonly this time, it will be as an audio drama.
âThe fact that we were getting ready to leave this year without any other type of production was kind of disturbing for us,â said artistic director Steve Vernon. âWe wanted to at least touch base with people as this year heads out the door and we get ready for a new year.â

WILMINGTON Usually this time of year, at least one staging of “A Christmas Carol” is going on in Wilmington. While entertainment venues, and thus theater companies, have been thwarted by Covid protocols from doing in-person shows, Big Dawg Productions is finding a way to bring the famed tale of redemption into the homes of theater lovers.
Big Dawg has launched “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” as a radio drama or as it would be coined in 2020, “an audio presentation” available to stream through Dec. 22. It’s one of many ways the story has been told and retold since Dickens published the original 1843 novella, “A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas.” Tom Mula’s stage version was introduced to Big Dawg’s
WILMINGTON Big Dawg Productions announces an audio presentation of a Wilmington favorite, “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” by Tom Mula.
The production can be stream by visiting showtix4u.com/event-details/43942. Tickets are $15, and the show is Dec. 17-22. Big Dawg Productions asks that one ticket be purchased per person, and not per household. The honor system will be in place. Once a ticket is purchased, you will be sent a link to a video that contains the play in audio form.
In the tradition of radio theater, the show will feature music, sound effects and powerful performances by four veterans of the Wilmington stage. The play stars Randy Davis as Jacob Marley, a role that gained him the 2018 StarNews Theater Award for Best Actor. The show also features Vanessa Welch as The Bogle, Steve Vernon as Scrooge, and two time StarNews Theater Award winner for Best Actor Fracaswell Hyman in multiple roles.
