A boat overturned Sunday off Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, sending two pregnant women and six men from Cuba overboard. The people had spent more than 16 days at sea on the makeshift vessel made of foam, metal rods and a Kia car engine, officials and eyewitnesses said.
Rescue workers took at least six people to hospitals after everyone had been pulled to shore near Waveland Beach, 10350 South Ocean Drive, State Road A1A, said St. Lucie and Martin County fire rescue officials.
