Man pleads not guilty to attempted murder of police officer

Hughes A Somerset man indicted with a count of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer among other felonies after leading officers in a downtown pursuit last month has been arraigned in Pulaski Circuit Court. Nicholas Lee Hughes, 30, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charge as well as five counts of first-degree Wanton Endangerment, first-degree Fleeing or Evading Police (Motor Vehicle), first-degree Criminal Mischief, second-degree Criminal Mischief, Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol or Controlled Substance (3rd offense, aggravating circumstances), and Resisting Arrest when he appeared in court last Thursday. Those charges stem from an incident that began just before 5 p.m. on March 3 when Somerset Police Department (SPD) received multiple complaints about the same vehicle driving recklessly in the area of Slate Branch Road and U.S. 27.

Tennessee man charged with murder in 2019 fatal wreck

James Ethan Oliver, 21 of Sparta in White County, Tenn., was arrested in Sparta on April 5. He waived extradition and was transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center last Friday. Oliver has been charged with Murder, three counts of first-degree Assault, first-degree Wanton Endangerment and first-degree Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. The wreck took place on December 13, 2019 around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ky. 461 and Old Mount Vernon Road.

Grand jury returned murder indictment against Samuel Baker

Samuel L. Baker The Pulaski County Grand Jury has returned a multi-count indictment against a man accused of fatally shooting someone who had tried to diffuse a family squabble. Samuel L. Baker, 22, of Bowling Green, is charged with Murder, first-degree Burglary, Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun and second-degree Persistent Felony Offender as part of the indictment filed Wednesday. Baker is also charged with second-degree Fleeing and Evading Police (Motor Vehicle), second-degree Fleeing and Evading Police (On Foot), Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana, Suspended License, No Insurance, and Resisting Arrest in Casey County, where he was ultimately arrested following the March 18 shooting.
