The Anglophone West School District announced Wednesday evening that there are two positive cases at
Nashwaaksis Middle School, both located on the city’s north side.
“We are working with Public Health officials to identify any students and school personnel who may have been in contact with the cases,” David McTimoney, superintendent of the school district, said in a letter to parents.
Both schools are closed Thursday for contact tracing. Nashwaaksis Middle is expected to reopen Friday students at Leo Hayes will learn online from home.
The district also announced a possible COVID-19 exposure at
New Maryland Elementary School, just outside of Fredericton. The school remains open Thursday.

Two schools in the Fredericton area, Leo Hayes High School and Nashwaaksis Middle School, are closed today because of possible exposure to COVID-19.
Both schools are closed to allow for contact tracing and for deep cleaning at the building.

HALIFAX New Brunswick is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including two travel-related cases involving New Brunswick residents who are isolating outside of the province. Of Wednesday s new cases, two are in the Moncton region (Zone 1) and involve: An individual in their 30s. An individual in their 60s. One of these cases is a close contact of a previously reported case, while the other is an out-of-province travel case. Five cases are being reported in the Bathurst region (Zone 6) and involve: An individual in their 20s. Three individuals in their 50s. An individual in their 60s. Three of the cases in Zone 6 are travel related, including one which is out-of-province, one is a close contact to a previously reported case and one remains under investigation.
New Brunswick reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday.
10 of those cases were discovered in the Fredericton health zone, and the other six were spread across the Moncton, Saint John, Edmundston and Bathurst regions.
The government also identified 24 possible exposure sites in Fredericton, noting the cases are linked to the India variant of COVID-19.
Public Health announced 12 New Brunswickers recovered since Wednesday, and the active case number is now 127.
There are currently 10 New Brunswickers in hospital with COVID-19, six of whom are in New Brunswick hospitals, and two are in an intensive care unit.
Vaccination program ramps up
Public Health has now expanded vaccine eligibility to include anyone who will be 30 years of age or older in 2021.
