Abstract
Problem: Women with gestational diabetes have higher rates of introducing infant formula before leaving hospital. Background: Despite health professional support, less women with gestational diabetes exclusively breastfeed in hospital. Aim: To find factors that positively influence in-hospital exclusive breastfeeding practices among women with gestational diabetes. Methods: An online search was performed in Medline, Scopus, Pubmed, CINAHL and Cochrane databases. Studies containing the keywords gestational diabetes and breastfeeding were retrieved. Findings: Authors identified 1935 papers from search criteria. Twenty-six papers with no restrictions on research design met inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Factors were divided into personal, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal factors. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has said that aggressive marketing tactics deployed by manufacturers of breast milk substitute hinder the adoption of exclusive breastfeeding amongst mothers in Nigeria.
This, the agency said, was responsible for stunted growth in children across the country.
The Kaduna State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr. Dadi Mullah Natim, stated this at a sensitisation workshop organised by the agency in the state capital recently.
Natim noted that the essence of the workshop designed for neonatal doctors, was to intensified awareness on the international code for marketing of breast milk substitute and the national regulations.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) with support from its partners, has launched and disseminated Ghana s Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH&N) Strategic Plan on for 2020-2025 in Accra.
The five-year strategic plan is designed to provide direction to health and relevant non-health stakeholders towards ending preventable deaths of women, newborn, children and adolescents.
Mrs Gifty Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, Deputy Minister of Health, who launched the document for onward dissemination, commended the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and all the key partners for improving upon the country s health care delivery system.
