Commercial, government and private businesses were on Wednesday disrupted in Nasarawa following a peaceful protest against the proposed bill by the House of Representatives to remove the minimum wage from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List.
Workers were temporary prevented from gaining entrance into the state House of the Assembly by the security operatives to present their grievances before the Nasarawa.
Presenting their protest letter to the Speaker in Lafia, NLC Chairman in the state Comrade Yusuf Iya said workers were still in shock over the proposed bill to remove the minimum wage from the exclusive legislative list.

In the wake of Wednesday’s protest to the National Assembly in Abuja by organised labour against decentralizing the minimum wage structure, Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum PGF, Salihu Moh. Lukman has hit back at labour, saying the protest was needless.
At a news conference Wednesday in Abuja, Lukman who was once a top official of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, said labour’s usual resort to protests and strikes have become outdated, urging them to perfect their negotiation skills.
According to him, the protest will not stop the National Assembly from considering bills that have to do with decentralizing the minimum wage structure.

He described as shameful, the attempt by some State Governors and members of the National Assembly to short-change the workers.
Wabba says the Bill being sponsored by Garba Datti Muhammad ( APC: Kaduna) to amend the minimum wage law must be resisted.
According to him, such an amendment will leave the Nigerian workers at the mercies of State governors whom he says will be paying workers whatever the decision.
The NLC Chairman says rather than seek to reduce the salaries of civil servants, the salaries of political officers including that of the legislators be cut down.
NLC and its affiliates on Wednesday demanded the withdrawal of a bill that would remove the National Minimum Wage from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list.
