Hyderabad, Jan 6 : The Hyderabad police on Wednesday arrested Andhra Pradesh ex-minister Bhooma Akhila Priya for the kidnapping of former badminton player Praveen Rao and his two brothers in a land dispute.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader was arrested from her residence in Kukatpally hours after the victims were released by the kidnappers on the city outskirts after they were left with no escape route.
Hyderabad: Former Andhra Pradesh minister Akhila Priya was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with the abduction of a former badminton player Praveen Rao and his two brothers, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said.
Priya’s husband Bhargava Ram and another relative were also detained and were being questioned by the police.
According to police sources, Praveen Rao and his two brothers, Sunil Rao and Naveen Rao, were abducted from their house in Manu Vikas Nagar colony in Secunderabad on Tuesday evening, creating a sensation in the city.
Quickly responding to the family’s complaint, police identified the two cars in which the three brothers were taken to a farmhouse in Vikarabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad and rescued them. The abductors had also taken away their phones and laptop with them.

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police on Wednesday detained former Andhra Pradesh minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and her husband Bhargava Ram for questioning in connection with the kidnapping of former badminton player Praveen Rao and his two brothers.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and her husband were picked up from their residence in Kukatpally hours after the trio were rescued by the police on the city outskirts. The couple was being questioned at an undisclosed location.
Praveen Rao, Sunil Rao and Naveen Rao, who are relatives of of Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao s personal assistant, were kidnapped on Tuesday night from their residence in Bowenpally here by a group of people posing as income tax officers.
