Was 19-year-old Micah Baltazar lured to his death on Neal’s Pen Road on the night of Monday, December 14? That, among other questions, are what police are attempting to find answers to as they investigate this shooting murder. For now, the police are saying that this incident is gang-related and that he was in the wrong neighborhood but Baltazar’s mother, who has conceded that her son is no saint, says that her child was misunderstood. What is certain, however, is that Baltazar had just left his cousin’s house located on Rivero Street when someone told him that a girl was looking for him. As such, he headed onto Neal’s Pen Road and it was at around 7:30 p.m. when he was ambushed. A lone gunman fired several shots in his direction and he was left to bleed out on the sidewalk.

The murder trial of P.C. Michelle Brown ended today in the Belize City Supreme Court after closing submissions by both the prosecution and defense before Justice Colin Williams. Justice Williams will deliver his verdict next Friday in a case that went on for almost three weeks and involved sworn testimonies from twenty prosecution witnesses. Some of the evidence from those testimonies was highlighted in the submissions made this morning. Senior Crown Counsel, Shanice Lovell zeroed in on the portion of the testimony given by P.C. Abner Itza, who had issued police weapons on the day when Brown went on shift. Lovell highlighted that Itza testified he had issued a weapon to Brown and went on to say that she appeared emotional and frustrated that day and that when her shift ended, she did not accept the offer a lift to her Holy Emmanuel Street address, as was the norm.
