For the last number of years the Irish Hereford Breed Society has held a very successful National Calf show in Tullamore, Co Offaly, but COVID-19 forced the calf show to move online this year.
The online show attracted over 100 entries, with 17 animals entered in one of the classes, and went down as a huge success with breeders.
This year’s judges were myself (Adam Woods), Robin Irvine (Graceland Herefords, NI) and Nigel Owens (international rugby referee and Hereford breeder, Wales).
Commenting on the quality of stock on display, Owens said: “The animals were a credit to the breeders and some of the classes proved very hard to select a winner from.

One of the things the Irish Examiner does really well and in fairness it does quite a few, bias aside is the daily e-edition of the paper.
On Monday morning, I was poring over coverage of the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals from afar when I happened upon a book excerpt of Damien Lawlor’s When the world stops watching: Life after the game.

Rugby referee Nigel Owens says he and his partner are now looking at maybe starting a family now that he s retiring from his international career.
He said they re discussing whether to go down the surrogacy or adoption route.
After 100 tests, the 49-year-old Welsh referee is calling time on his international career - although still hopes to see out the Pro14 season.
He says he believes 100 is a nice way to finish up, rather than pushing for a less tidy 101 or 102.
