New LEP board chair is confident in economy

The economy of York and North Yorkshire will grow back and be better as it recovers from Covid-19 a business leader has said. Sue Jefferson has been appointed chair of the business board at York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the business-led partnership which secures investment for projects that will make a difference to the economy. Sue, who lives in Malton, has 30 years of experience in UK director and global leadership roles. Outside of the LEP, she uses her expertise in non-executive director roles and developing leadership teams. “The board has identified current and emerging issues at the heart of all types of business, helping to shape then monitor the effective support offered through the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub,” said Sue.

Ellis Patents manufactures another young career

A MANUFACTURER has demonstrated its commitment to developing young careers in Ryedale by taking on a new mechanical apprentice. Adam Sweeting, 18, is the latest in a long line of apprentices taken on by Ellis Patents, which specialises in cable cleat construction. Adam joins the Rillington company from Scarborough University Technical College He is doing his apprenticeship through Malton-based Derwent Training Association, which has close associations with Ellis Patents – with both Danny Macfarlane and chairman, Richard Shaw on its board. At present, around 20 per cent of its 50 strong workforce started as apprentices – including all five members of its full-time tool room and metal work teams.
