I couldn’t help but giggle as the rod bent deep into the cork. I was tight to the fifth or sixth rainbow of the morning, and this one was doing her best to put some river between us. She went airborne a handful of times, forcing me to bow to her, as I would a tarpon, to spare the 5x tippet. By keeping the rod tip low and letting the reel’s drag apply gentle but constant pressure, I tired the big trout out enough to slowly regain line. Eventually, I slid the net under the 20-inch ‘bow.

Woodcock Creek Lake The stream is now stocked with trout. Anglers must possess a valid Trout Permit to fish for any species of fish in the stream. Anglers are catching Muskellunge, Walleye, and panfish below the dam.
French Creek Reminder to boaters using the PFBC access on the creek, boats must be properly registered before using PFBC access areas. Also, please be sure to have all required safety equipment on board prior to the start of your float.

Mark Haber, of Española, caught a 20-inch walleye trolling at Abiquiú Lake a crankbait March 7.
Edward Marraccini, of Albuquerque, caught and released a 21-inch brown trout on the Chama River, below El Vado Lake, using a Black Bunny on Leech on March 7.
Justin Journal, of Rio Rancho, caught a 7.32-pound largemouth bass at Elephant Butte Lake using a Red Square Bill Crankbait.
Michael Cisco Medford, 7, of Las Cruces, caught an 8-pound blue catfish trolling a deep-diving white/chartreuse crankbait March 7.

Parker McMillian, both of Silver City, caught 18 white bass trolling shad colored crankbaits March 6.

Stacy Preston, of Artesia, caught a 6.8-pound, 22.5-inch largemouth bass at Brantley Lake using a Storm Largo Shad on Feb. 25.
Crystal Garcia, of Albuquerque, caught a 22-inch brown trout on the Chama River below El Vado Lake using a minnow imitation swimbait Feb. 27.
Alonso Ordaz, 13, caught and released a 55-pound blue catfish at Elephant Butte Lake using cut bait shad on a Santee Cooper Rig with a Muddy River Catfishing Demon Dragon Feb. 22. Keith Rogers, of Silver City, caught 16 white bass in the 2 to 2.5-pound range trolling white/silver shad-color deep-diving crankbaits Feb. 27.
Jusiah Estrada, 11, of Las Vegas, caught and released a 17-inch cuttbow trout at Morphy Lake using a brown and gold Joe’s Fly on March 1.
