Just as Michigan s Unemployment Insurance Agency finished implementing new federal programs that allow the majority of unemployed workers in the state to claim benefits, some users were unable to log in to the site Monday.
When claimants went to the state s unemployment website and tried to log in with their MiWAM logins, they were redirected to a waiting area, and then the site wouldn t load.
Caleb Buhs, communications director for Michigan s Department of Technology, Management and Budget, said MiLogin, which allows users to access many state services and systems online across multiple departments, is experiencing slowness this morning causing some users the inability to connect.

The state Department of Labor & Industry is working through glitches as it begins paying benefits for two unemployment programs to benefit those out of work because of COVID-19, following Congress’s reauthorization of the programs after they expired just before the end of last year.
“I understand how frustrating it is,” said acting Labor Secretary Jennifer Berrier. “Not everything has gone as smoothly as we wanted.”
The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program and the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program ended Dec. 26, and the federal government didn’t complete its extension of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act that renewed them until the next day and then didn’t give states guidance for the renewal until Jan. 11, according to a department news release.

LANSING The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) has started issuing $300 weekly Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUC) payments to an estimated 365,000 claimants on regular state unemployment insurance (UI) and Extended Benefit programs this weekend.
The PUC supplement, which is payable from Dec. 27, 2020 through March 13, 2021, provides an additional $300 per week to all eligible unemployment recipients who receive at least $1 for the week.
