NAHA Okinawa Gov. Denny Tamaki revealed on April 9 that he intends to request that the Japanese government implement quasi-emergency measures against the coronavirus in nine cities on the southernmost prefecture s main Okinawa Island, including prefectural capital Naha.
Tamaki revealed during a regular news conference on the morning of April 9 that he spoke with Japan s economic revitalization minister Yasutoshi Nishimura over the phone the previous night, and said, We have not been able to hold down infection numbers. I ve judged that we have no choice but to implement quasi-emergency measures to overcome this phase.

NAHA Criticism has arisen over a plan by the Japanese defense ministry to collect soil from 1945 battlefields for reclamation work for the relocation of the U.S. Futenma Air Station to the coastal area of Henoko in this southernmost Japan prefecture.
A man who has been collecting the remains from the area as a volunteer began a sit-in protest over the issue in front of the prefectural government office in Naha on the morning of March 1.
