Staff were due to remain at the barrier as a precaution, while residents were advised that Wednesday s tide would be lower and “within the normal range”.
The barrier is operated around 30 times a year, at times when high tides are expected to funnel surges of water into the River Hull. The massive 212-tonne barrier gate can be deployed within 30 minutes of a flood warning.
The expectation is that the barrier - which was put in place following widespread flooding on September 29 1969 - will be used more often in future because of climate change and rising sea levels.

Flooding in Hull live updates as high tide and barrier issue sparks alert
Flood alert issued for the city
The Hull Tidal Barrier
Hull has tonight been told to prepare for flooding in a race against time to fix an issue with the city s main flood defence mechanism.
The Hull Tidal Barrier is currently out of action as engineers battle to get the huge arm down to safeguard the city.
Environment Agency teams have issued a major flood alert across the city, which includes Cottingham, Kirk Ella, Anlaby, Hessle, Bransholme.
Text and email flood alerts were sent out to residents in the Lower River Hull catchment area which revealed a high tide this evening (Tuesday), coupled together an operational issue with Hull s main defence arm, has provoked a major warning to Hull residents.
