Hawks In Eddyville To Secure State Bids

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams make the trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School tonight for their class 2A state qualifier meet. The Hawks were last in action a week ago at the River Valley Conference Championship meet in Anamosa. The Mid-Prairie girls were crowned River Valley Champions with their total score of 136, beating second place Northeast Goose Lake by 46. The Golden Hawks got points from 17 of 19 competing events and brought home gold in six different events. Mitzi Evans took the title in the 800, Sydney Yoder in the 1500, Danielle Hostetler in the 3000, Tori Boyse in the shot put, Maddie Edgington, Amara Jones, Alyssa McDowell and Amber Swart in the 4×200 and Edgington, Swart, Evans and Hostetler in the distance medley.

Anamosa Hosts River Valley Championship Meets Thursday

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams travel north tonight for the annual River Valley Conference Championship meet at Anamosa High School. The last time this meet was held in 2019, the Mid-Prairie girls finished as conference runners-up with 92 points, behind Cascade’s 113 points. The Mid-Prairie girls come in on a streak of three consecutive meet team championships with wins at Tipton, their home meet and Center Point-Urbana in the last few weeks. At CPU last week, the Hawks scored 124 points and had six event champions including this week’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Mitzi Evans in the 200, Danielle Hostetler in the 800, Ana Fleming in the 3000, the 4×100 and sprint medley team of Amber Swart Amara Jones, Alyssa McDowell and Maddie Edgington and the distance medley of Edgington, McDowell, Hostetler and Evans. The Golden Hawks bring back two members of the reigning 4×100 and sprint medley RVC champs.

Blue Top Hosts Area Triangular

Three boys and girls golf teams will take the course in Riverside on Thursday when Highland and Lone Tree host Mid-Prairie in triangular action. The Mid-Prairie boys are coming off of a seventh place team finish at Blue Top Ridge on Tuesday in the River Valley Conference Championship meet where they shot a score of 389 led by Elite All-Conference member Dominic McCain’s fourth place finish and round of 82. For the year, the Golden Hawks have an 18-hole team average of 384 with McCain holding a team low mark of 82. The Highland and Lone Tree boys both played at the Superconference Championship meet Thursday at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison. Highland was 10th in the field with their team score of 444. Jamison Kasparek was best for the Huskies with a 96. On the year, Highland has an 18-hole average of 498 with Kasparek’s 96 the best average. Lone Tree was 11th at the Superonference meet Wednesday with a 449.

Blue Top Ridge Hosts River Valley Championships

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and 13 other schools travel to Blue Top Ridge at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort Tuesday for the River Valley Conference Championship meet. The Golden Hawks were last in action a week ago in West Liberty at the 18-hole West Liberty Invitational where they were seventh of 10 teams with a score of 366. The Hawks were led by Dominic McCain’s seventh place individual finish with a round of 81. On the year, the Golden Hawks are shooting a 383 average per 18-holes as a team with a low round of 366. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 23 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. The Hawks are led by McCain with an 82 average per 18-holes. He is currently ranked No. 13 in class 3A in the latest individual rankings from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. Hawks Split at Clear Creek

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team finished the dual regular season Thursday night in Tiffin at Clear Creek Amana High School, splitting a pair of duals. Mid-Prairie opened the night with a win over the Clippers on their home mat 42-33. The Golden Hawks got wins in contested matches from Malachai Sexton at 106, Owen Trimpe at 152, Vinnie Bowlin at 160, Kaden Meader at 170, Cael Garvey at 195, Josh Wallington at 220 and Gannon Callahan at 285, all by fall. In the nightcap, the Hawks were beaten 48-36 by Central DeWitt.
