PORTLAND, Ore. It s no secret Portland s housing crisis was worsened by the pandemic, but it remains unknown just how much the region s homeless population has grown in the last year.
Economists estimate a 40-45% rise in homelessness during the pandemic, but we can t be sure yet how much that number has grown.
Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare (CBH) has deployed outreach teams to help people on the streets find basic services and housing.

Dan McKee nominated Richard Charest, the former president and CEO of Landmark Medical Center, to head the state's Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, the Providence Journal reported. Charest has been consulting.

(Providence, RI) A former hospital head is being picked to become the new director of the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. Governor Dan McKee has nominated Richard Charest, the former president and CEO of Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. The pick must be confirmed by the state Senate. The change in leadership comes as the department which runs the state hospital has been caught up in controversy over a proposed downsizing plan for the facility. The state is currently reviewing the quality of patient care at Eleanor Slater Hospital.

PROVIDENCE Gov. Dan McKee has appointed Richard Charest, the former president and CEO of Landmark Medical Center, to head the troubled agency that runs the state s last resort hospital for patients with severe medical and psychiatric disorders.
McKee will submit Charest s name to the Senate for confirmation as the new director of the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals.
“We are confident that Richard’s decades of experience in the health care field have prepared him to lead this department which provides vital services and support to some of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable populations, McKee said Wednesday.
