Hendersonville s Chalk it Up! to celebrate 25 years downtown

Special to the Times-News/Narnia Studios Every July for the past 24 years, Chalk It Up! has transformed the sidewalks of downtown Hendersonville into an outdoor art museum. And this year, the 25th anniversary, looks to be no different.  The event was created by Barbara Hughes, owner of Narnia Studios, after being inspired by her three children drawing on the sidewalk in front of her store. Now, 25 years later, what began with 150 artists of all ages, a handful of chalk and a little imagination has turned into one of the most beloved events of the summer. For those wishing to attend for the first or the 25th time, the event will be held Saturday, July 17 at 9 a.m., with rain dates of July 24 and July 31. As of Monday afternoon, nine spots remained open; to register, visit www.narniastudios.com/chalk-it-up.

Henderson County Life: Main Street will be well-stocked for Garden Jubilee

The new hybrid approach in 2021 incorporates a downtown street show as one of 16 stops on the tour. The overall tour takes place Friday to Sunday, May 28-30, while the Main Street event happens Saturday and Sunday only. The return of Main Street features a reduction in the number of vendors and a tripling of space between booths. Event coordinator Amy Boswell of the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority has secured a superb lineup of plant vendors and garden accessory vendors for Main Street. “Just about anything you need for your garden, we’ll have it on Main Street,” Boswell says.

Garden Jubilee to combine Main Street vendors, countryside tour for 2021 event

Garden Jubilee to combine Main Street vendors, countryside tour for 2021 event From staff reports Hendersonville’s garden extravaganza this Memorial Day weekend will combine vendors and activities on Main Street with the popular pivot last year to countryside tours of nurseries and orchards.  Last May, the event was renamed Garden Jubilee Nurseries & Orchards Tour and shifted from a downtown gathering to a countryside tour of nurseries and orchards. Brought about by the pandemic, the change received overwhelming approval, organizers said in a news release.  Main Street is back as a venue this year, scaled down for social distancing, and will be held in tandem with the countryside tours.
