Limerick motorist caught travelling at high speed during 24-hour clampdown Reporter: );   ); A motorist is facing possible prosecution before the courts after they were caught driving at high speed during National Slow Down Day. Gardai have confirmed several motorists were caught speeding at locations across Limerick during the 24-hour operation which concluded at 7am today. They have highlighted a number of notable detections from across the country - one of which includes a motorist who was caught travelling at 162km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N21 at Castlematrix, Rathkeale. Other local detections, which were made during the operation include:

Gardai catch over 890 motorists speeding on National Slow Down day

A motorist detected driving at 162kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N21 in Limerick has topped the poll of offenders in the 24-hour National Slow Down Day campaign. In Cloonagrasson, Ballintubber, Co Roscommon another motorist was caught speeding at 161kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N60 while another was detected driving at 97kmh in a 50kmh zone on the R680 Cork road in Co Waterford. These were just some of the 892 vehicles detected travelling over the speed limit over the 24 hours of the operation that got underway at 7am on Friday. Gardai and the RSA thanked the 185,233 drivers who were found to be compliant and drove within the speed limit over the course of the operation.
