Highway police received a report at 1:57 a.m. that a silver car was driving south in the northbound lane of National Freeway No. 1 near Sanchong District in New Taipei, but they were unable to locate the vehicle on arriving in the area. At 2:19 a.m., another report was received that the car had been sighted on the freeway near Xizhi District and was traveling at over 100 kph in the wrong direction.
