The daily briefing by Greek health authorities revealed 2,781 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 340,493. The new cases were recorded from 61,291 tests with a positivity rate of 4.54 per cent.
The briefing by the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) also reported 63 deaths on Wednesday, a small decrease from Tuesday. The total number of fatalities since the pandemic started increased to 10,242.
The number of intubated patients remains high, as there are still 805 patients on respiratory support.
Attica, Greece’s most populous region, remains the geographical epicenter of the pandemic with 1,263 new cases. The northern city of Thessaloniki is second with 413.

Greek authorities announced on Wednesday the reopening of the retail sector as of next week, and allowed travel between municipalities on weekends to respond to the public’s difficulty in coping with months-long restrictions.
Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said stores will operate with the previously used click-and-collect model or even allowing customers inside stores using the click-in-shop system (shopping by appointment).
Customers will be allowed to shop for three hours. But major shopping malls will not reopen.
People will also be able to use their car to travel to another municipality for exercise, sending an SMS with the number 6.

ATHENS - Getting around restrictions in a third supposed tougher third lockdown aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, Greeks are taking to public areas in droves, even outside their neighborhoods.
While non-essential businesses continue to stay closed after the quasi-lockdown was extended past the initial March 1 lifting, people are using an allowed permission for exercise to leave their homes.
Street traffic is also near normal and Greek TV has shown huge crowds on Thessaloniki’s waterfront promenade, the country’s second-largest city driving cases so high with health measure defiances in November, 2020 that a second lockdown was brought, too late.
