City Of Boston Completes $11 Million Investment In Energy Efficiency And Renewable Energy Upgrades Across 14 City Buildings

Subscribe BOSTON - Tuesday, Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced the completion of the first phase of Renew Boston Trust, the City of Boston s initiative to invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy measures for municipal buildings. The first phase of the $45 million investment spans 14 City-owned buildings, including libraries, community centers, police and fire stations, and helps reduce energy use, save money, and reduce city-emitted greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. This work marks continued commitment by the City of Boston to lead by example and implement strategies outlined in the 2019 Climate Action Plan update to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become carbon neutral by 2050.

Jan 14, 2021 The Red Cross is assisting the eight people displaced by a fire at a two-family home on Lyell Avenue. The fire broke out yesterday near Child Street, and next door to Fire Department Engine 5. Two people were hurt jumping from a second-floor window. The house was heavily damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Amsterdam’s first fire station was built in 1839 on Chuctanunda Street to house Mohawk Engine Company Number 1. In 1870 the crew of volunteers and equipment there became the J.D. Serviss Steamer and Hose Company Number 1. Serviss was a popular political leader and insurance man who became known as the “father” of the local fire department.
