The question of masks is back in the spotlight with two health agencies releasing conflicting guidance. Horry County parents have differing views on whether their child will wear a mask next school year. My biggest concern is that I m going to be sending my kids to a school where the district isn t following recommendations and parents aren t following recommendations, Jaclyn Fignole said.
That mother of two said she has a troubling thought.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Parents and guardians of Horry County students who want their child to finish the school year at home have until Monday to make the decision.
Horry County Schools is allowing the option for at-home learning for those who aren’t comfortable sending their children to school with the removal of the mask mandate.
The district said students opting out of traditional learning will not switch to the HCS virtual program but will work independently from home, submitting and receiving assignments through Google Classroom or Seesaw.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - All Horry County Schoolsâ employees could get some extra money in their paycheck, but next fiscal yearâs budget must be approved first.
This comes after many employees were waiting to receive a 2% increase from the previous school year.
School workers were eligible to receive their 2% pay raises for the 2020-21 school year. But the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the state putting the STEP increase on hold.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - As the deadline to register for the Horry County Schoolsâ virtual program nears, Gov. Henry McMaster is starting a push to make masks optional for students inside South Carolina classrooms.
âI think it is a height of ridiculosity for a school district to make that decision for the parents, particularly since we know that even when the virus was rampant that the schools, the classrooms were the safest places of all,â McMaster stated.

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) Horry County Police Dept. have taken Terry Brady, the suspect wanted in an active shooting situation on Highway 544 near Conway, into custody following an active shooting situation.
Horry County Police are still asking that if you are near Fox Hollow Road and Miles Standish Court to get inside a building and stay there.
Officers said they are investigating the active shooting incident in that area.
Horry County Fire Rescue is working on a fully-involved structure fire in continuation of the active shooting incident earlier Thursday.
