African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights has struck out Mr Seif Sharif Hamad from the suit challenging the return of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party as winner of the Tanzania presidential election
held on 28 October 2020.
The court removed Hamad following an application by lawyers informing the court of his demise.
Hamad and his political party, Alliance for Change and Transparency Wazalendo (ACT Wazalendo) have dragged the government of Tanzania to the court claiming that their right to participate in the election was deliberately restricted by the government using state’s institutions to frustrate them.
John Magufuli who was re-elected president on the platform of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party also died on 17th March 2021.
In 2015 John Pombe Magufuli became Tanzania’s accidental President. Colourful and charismatic, Magufuli charmed the masses during his five years in office. He demanded results and pulled off successes that were elevated to the status of minor miracles. He channeled his inner Julius Nyerere to revive Tanzania’s distinctive internal self-reliance-based identity.
The state was back, and the state was Magufuli. He used his campaign against the
mabepari class to grandstand on a regular basis, and the coronavirus pandemic provided the former chemist with an opportunity to elevate his anti-imperialist credentials. His controversial stance won him approval across the region: several of my colleagues remarked that “Magufuli is the only African President to speak truth to the pandemic”.

DAR ES SALAAM, April 22 (Xinhua) Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday reiterated her pledge to restore investors confidence in the east African nation by overhauling investment laws and offering incentive packages. We should offer incentives to strategic investors and dismantle hurdles that discourage investors from doing business in the country, she said in her maiden address to the National Assembly in the capital Dodoma.
In her address televised by state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, President Hassan said Tanzania has reached a stage where investors feel that the country s investment policies are unpredictable.
Media fasting is as good as rest after period of national mourning

Summary
Tanzania’s being in the news so much lately has been wonderful in many ways, but also perhaps a little tiresome in the end. As much as I try to keep up with current affairs, I have other interests to read about and obligations to attend to that require my attention.

I am told that the national broadcaster, Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, is airing events of national importance live these days.
I cannot confirm this as I have been doing something that not many people in the media would admit to doing from time to time. I have been on a media fast. Therefore, any news of TBC’s performance as our public broadcaster is largely hearsay on my side since about a week or more ago.
