(WTVM) - Columbus police say domestic violence led to the death of 31-year-old Tanuska Jackson last week, and it’s part of a disturbing trend worldwide that directly correlates with the pandemic. The American Journal of Emergency Medicine shows double-digit increases in the volume of domestic violence cases in the U.S. It’s been referred to as a pandemic within a pandemic. “All of our calls are confidential. They can call in and don’t have to worry about anyone knowing that they called us,” said Zenene Humphrey-Davis, executive director of the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Opelika.

Dexter Potts, 25, was arrested Saturday and charged murder and aggravated assault in the death of Tanuska Jackson. Columbus police were dispatched to Eagle Trace Apartments on Torch Hill Road March 5 at around 11 p.m. in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m.

Two women who were shot to death in front of Family Dollar on Floyd Road had five children between the two. A six-year-old was in the backseat of the car and witnessed her mother being shot.
