Hungarian Construction Companies Send Containers to Earthquake-hit Croatia
Hungarian construction companies have funded a delivery of 120 containers to central Croatia, which was hit by an earthquake last December.
The containers are equipped to serve over 200 people as their homes and will be sent to the towns of Petrinja, Sisak and Glina, said László Lehel, head of the Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA), which organised the delivery of the containers.
The value of the donation came to one million euros. The bill was footed by 24 construction companies, at the initiative of the Mészáros Group.
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Tomo Medved thanked Hungary and Hungarian companies for the aid, and noted Hungary’s earlier contributions to the reconstruction of a school and a church in the region.

It was the end of the previous year, the 29th of December when Croatia was struck by the worst of all earthquakes to hit that vicinity. It recorded at 6.4 on the Richter magnitude scale affecting approximately 116,000 humans. The most affected ones are from Petrinia, Sisak, and Glina, given the high intensity of the quack, and several others are affected that were based in the surrounding rural areas.

Thousands of people are living fear of being swallowed up by the Earth after hundreds of sinkholes appear in an area that was shaken by strong earthquake just over two months ago.
On December 29, 2020, Croatia recorded its strongest earthquake ever. Measured at 6.4 points on the Richter magnitude scale, the quake directly affected 116,000 people, mainly in the cities of Petrinja, Sisak, and Glina, and the rural areas around them. Over 35,000 homes and 4,550 businesses were damaged by the strong tremor and its many aftershocks, and five fatalities attributed to the destructive natural phenomenon were reported. Now, over two months since the earthquake, people in the affected area are even more worried about the sink holes that keep appearing.
