Escape to Cambridge, Maryland
Downtown Cambridge, Maryland.
With a cute and quaint downtown, industrial roots and significant history, the small city of Cambridge, Maryland is a great retreat for a long weekend this summer.Â
Located about 95 miles away from Alexandria on Marylandâs Eastern Shore, Cambridge sits on the Choptank River, just slightly east of the Chesapeake Bay and just north of the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.Â
Hereâs what we found in Cambridge and nearby Easton, St. Michaels and Oxford â all great for history buffs and nature lovers alike.Â
Cambridge was founded in 1684 and is one of the oldest Colonial cities in Maryland. It was incorporated as a city in 1793 and developed as a hub of food processing and canning in the late 1900s. In the 1960s, as the local food packing industry declined, Cambridge became a focal point in the Civil Rights Movement.Â

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - I just want to say one thing before we get started: I know that I’m going to forget somebody’s favorite watering hole.
That’s where you come in. If I did neglect to mention your go-to saloon and you can send me a picture, please do, and I’ll make sure that it gets included.
Meanwhile, I hope you’ll enjoy this trip (or stumble) down memory lane as we take a look back at some of iconic bars, watering holes and saloons that were on Staten Island’s South Shore and Mid-Island.
