Douglas Houle, age 2-1/2, is safely back in his daddy s lap after wandering away from home this morning. Douglas, son of the David Houle of Route 5, went missing at 10:30 a.m. and was found two hours later about a mile from home. He was spotted by Bill Morris, the flying game warden, who directed searchers to the boy.

Irene Johnson, 81, a relentless community activist on the issue of fluoridation, has died at Woodland Good Samaritan in Brainerd. Johnson led the city s fight against state mandated fluoridation, which reached the point of five council members being held in contempt of court in 1979, and eventual fluoridation on Feb. 7, 1980.

The three words to describe 2021 are:
Acceleration, Collapse and Rebound. I will go into this at length in the next few columns. What the year-end brings however, is the need for lists about next year. Here is the first one.
The Big Three for America
COVID-19 and Vaccines
America will not really be in a position to live in a post-COVID-19 world until the fourth quarter of 2021 at the earliest. Probably 2022. Patience is a virtue.
America will ultimately suffer somewhere around 700,000+ deaths, or another 400,000 from the date of this column. This will make it the worst death event in our history.

My previous column titled Dark Winter was my suggestion that we will have a dark winter ahead primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The only thing I got wrong was thinking that America might top out at 135,000 new cases a day. Well, I am writing this on Dec. 7 and we have already hit 200,000 as a daily new case load, so I was off by 40%. This, of course, only makes the winter darker.
America’s Vision Deficit was about how, until recently, Americans came together to face common enemies, whether it was the Axis Powers in WWII or the Soviet Union in the race to the moon and the Cold War.
