The Bengals did it again! They found a way to win a second game in a row where they were sizable underdogs. This time their victory came against the Texans.
There were plenty of notable performances as we got to see the offense help out the defense for the first time in a while. Ultimately, this team found a way to win, and we are here to examine some of the noteworthy observations connected to playing time.
UPDATE
Jackson has been declared OUT with his concussion. LeShaun Sims will take over for him at cornerback opposite of Darius Phillips.
The Bengals were looking strong out of the gate, but an injury seems to have derailed their game in Houston.
William Jackson III and Jessie Bates III ran into each other while going for an errant Deshaun Watson pass down the field. Bates came up alright, but Jackson stayed down and was taken into the locker room.
Friendly fire between Jessie Bates III and William Jackson III, both going for the Watson pass, leaves WJ3 down after the play, too.
Winners
Brandon Allen: If there was any doubt that Allen was the Bengals’ best backup quarterback, it’s been completely erased. Allen was as accurate as we’ve ever seen him Sunday against a depleted Texans’ secondary. He finished the game with 371 yards on 29/37 passing and two touchdowns. He had more to work with than Deshaun Watson had, but he finished strong against the Texans’ elite young quarterback on the road.
Samaje Perine: There’s a real argument for Perine being the Bengals’ best running back on the entire roster, including Joe Mixon. Perine works well regardless of the quality of blocking and showed out with 95 yards on just 13 carries. Most of that yardage came on his impressive 46-yard touchdown run, which is the longest run by a Bengals’ running back this season. Perine took care of business against a defense that’s terrible against the run.
