Pride rainbow crossing to be installed in Nelson

RYAN ANDERSON/Stuff Nelson will soon have its own rainbow street crossing, similar to one installed on Karangahape Rd in Auckland earlier this year. He said the timing of the project was significant, marking the 36th anniversary of Dame Fran Wild’s 1985 introduction of the bill to legalise homosexuality, and the 35th anniversary of that bill passing in July the following year. “[That was] not within my lifetime but within the lifetime of most people in this room . that legacy still remains. “I do see this as more than just paint on the road . it s a symbol of commitment to doing all that we can to support all members of our community, and particularly in this instance those in our LGBTQ+ community in Nelson.”

Wellington s water can can t be kicked down the road any longer

STUFF A huge fountain erupted in Aro Valley sending torrents of water down Aro Street, as Wellington s pipe network s woes continue. EDITORIAL: In their summary of the state of nation in 1875, the authors of the Official Handbook of New Zealand noted that “Wellington only needs proper sanitary arrangements to be one of the healthiest cities in the world.” More than 140 years on, that description still rings true. It seems like barely a week goes by without some kind of major water pipe failure in the capital. In the past few weeks alone, we’ve seen a sewage pipe break that prompted a furious scramble to avoid another huge discharge of human waste into the harbour, a major water pipe rupture in Aro Street, and a sinkhole in the CBD.
