Fish of 7,585 ponds and ghers have been washed away by flood due to Cyclone Yaas in Patuakhali. This has caused Tk 55.44 crore financial loss to the fish farmers.
Patuakhali District Fisheries Department has informed the higher authorities to rehabilitate the affected farmers.
According to the Water Development Board, a large area of Patuakhali has been inundated due to the impact of Cyclone Yaas. The currents of the main rivers have flowed above the danger level of 74 cm, which is more compared to last year s Cyclone Amphan – resulting in flooding of several fish farms in Kalapara, Rangabali and Galachipa upazilas.
In total, 727.81 km of rural roads, including three bridges and three culverts, were damaged in Patuakhali due to the storm triggered by Cyclone Yaas. A father and his daughter were crushed to death by a truck after it ploughed into their roadside house in Pabna on Friday night.
In Patuakhali, a tourist was killed in a road accident at Lebukhali ferry terminal of Dumki upazila the same night.
The victims in Pabna Shah Babu, 38, and his daughter Bristi Khatun, 12 were from Vitepara area of Santhia upazila.
Babu, along with his family members, was having dinner at his home around 10:00pm when the cement-laden truck crashed into the tin-shed home and ran over the duo. His wife and son luckily escaped unhurt, said family members.
