Trussville hosting chili cook-off and obstacle course race

From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE Trussville Parks and Recreation will host a chili cookoff and obstacle course race on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021. The dual event will be held at the Trussville Civic Center from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The chili cookoff will be in the exhibit hall. Participants should arrive at 9 a.m. Judging will take place from 11 a.m. until noon. Participants must pay a $50 entry fee. Categories will include People’s Choice, Not Your Grandma’s Chili, Where’s the Beef? and Fire in the Belly! Doors will open to the public at noon and general admission will be $5.

(Photo by Bernard Troncale/The Birmingham News) Facebook Share Jazz in the Park founder Bernard Lockhart died on Monday from complications related to COVID-19, his wife, Jacqueline, announced on Facebook. Lockhart, 59, had been director and event organizer for Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham and event manager at Trussville Civic Center. He founded the Jazz in the Park event series at Avondale Park in Birmingham in 2010. The series later spread to other Birmingham city parks and presented jazz concerts at parks in other cities in Alabama, including in Bessemer, Helena, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa.

Pop-up shop event this weekend at Trussville Civic Center

TRUSSVILLE Wholly Naturalmony presents a pre-Christmas pop-up shop event on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020. The event will be held at the Trussville Civic Center from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Vendors include Scentsy, Unique Kisses Cosmetics, Karisma, Gourmet Eats 205 and many more. Wholly Naturalmony is a natural hair care line created by 18-year-old Jamiyah Patton. Patton, a student at the University of Montevallo, was inspired by years of unruly, natural hair. “I am the youngest sibling of three, and my vision was somewhat inspired by my sisters,” Patton stated on her website. “After years of frustration with our natural hair becoming frizzy and because my edges would always be the first to fold, my sisters would always try different regimens to tame our hair.”
