Educational visit from deaf sailor teaches Pontefract pupils about hearing loss
As part of ‘Deaf Awareness Week’, pupils at The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School received a virtual visit from British sailor, Gerry Hughes.
Gerry was the first profoundly deaf British sailor to sail single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.
During the visit the pupils learned about Gerry’s achievements and watched his documentary, Silent Odyssey.

Gerry said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time meeting the children as part of their Deaf Awareness Week activities.
BUFFALO, N.Y. To no one s surprise, the Buffalo Bills selected a defensive end Miami s Gregory Rousseau with the No. 30 overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft.
With veterans Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison entering the final year of their respective contracts in 2021 and few other building blocks at the position, it made sense for general manager Brandon Beane to invest another premium pick into an edge rusher.
But few, including ESPN s Mel Kiper Jr., expected Beane to double down and draft another defensive end Wake Forest s Carlos Basham Jr. with the team s second-round pick. Less than 24 hours after calling Rousseau and 2020 second-round pick AJ Epenesa the Bills hopeful starters of the future, Beane added another name to the defensive line room.

The Buffalo Bills stayed true to their board in the 2021 NFL Draft.
That strategy led to Buffalo getting stronger in the trenches with defensive ends Gregory Rousseau and Carlos Basham Jr. being selected in the first and second round and offensive tackles Spencer Brown and Tommy Doyle being the team’s next two selections. Buffalo rounded out their draft with a receiver/return man (Marquez Stevenson), two defensive backs (Damar Hamlin and Rachad Wildgoose) and another offensive lineman (Jack Anderson).
