All three had addresses at Kilcruttin halting site in Tullamore and the bulk of the guilty pleas related to an incident at Kilbrook in the town on August 26, 2019.

Thomas McDermott, 65 Cluain na Sibhe, Killashee, Co Longford, previously appeared at Longford District Court where evidence was heard from two separate fishermen who said that, on February 16, 2019 and September 25, 2019, the accused had issued a number of threats and shouted abuse at them. Jurisdiction was refused by Judge Seamus Hughes in the District Court last year and Mr McDermott was granted bail with the condition that he stay away from the canal line at Killashee, where the offences had occurred, and that he refrain from contacting or interfering with the witnesses.

James McCarthy, 50, of 160 Arden View, Tullamore and his son John McCarthy, 21, with an address at 29 Puttaghaun Close, Tullamore, admitted violent disorder in Arden View on April 9, 2020, when they were arraigned at the local Circuit Court. A third defendant, Michael Sweeney, of 146 Arden View, who will be 19 next week, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and assaulting Thomas Power when he appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson.

Mark Power, 41, of 119 Arden View, Tullamore appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson on Tuesday and admitted violent disorder in the estate in the town on April 9, 2020. Defence counsel Geraldine Fitzpatrick told the court that while Mr Power had previous convictions, he had not been in trouble for some time. Ms Fitzpatrick sought a medical report for the accused because of the injuries he received in the incident which gave rise to the charge.
