Theresa Balboa filed the initial missing persons report for Olson on Thursday evening, but the story she told officers began to unravel as the investigation progressed. Balboa told officers that at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday morning she saw the boy’s mother speaking to a police officer at the front of the residence. Forty-two-year-old Samuel Brister, of Pineland, was pronounced dead at St Elizabeth Hospital by Jefferson County Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam, III..
According to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis, it happened at about 8:00 on U.S. Highway 287 just northwest of Woodville. Davis said Brister was driving northbound in a 2016 Dodge pickup truck when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the highway and struck a tree.
The Woodville Fire Department was called to the scene with Jaws-of-Life when it was reported that the man was trapped in the vehicle.
Captain Mike Poindextor of the Jasper Police Department said Thursday that numerous people in the Jasper had received calls from someone claiming that they were selling refrigerator door magnets as a fund-raising effort for local law enforcement on behalf of Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall and others.
Poindextor said he wanted to make it perfectly clear that the Jasper Police Department is not sponsoring or endorsing any such fundraiser or in any way connected to it.
Poindextor said anyone receiving the call free to do whatever, but he wants everyone to know that the fundraiser is not sanctioned or endorsed by the police department.

JASPER, Ind. (WFIE) - A Jasper man was booked into jail after being accused of child molestation.
The Jasper Police Department says they started investigating an allegation of sexual abuse to a victim under 14 on Tuesday.
Police say further investigation revealed probable cause to arrest 30-year-old Joshua Govea for child molestation.
Jail records show he is no longer in jail.
