League City City Council approves 1-time decrease to water rate after winter storm

LEAGUE CITY, Texas Considering the high water bills some residents are facing due to last month s winter storm, League City City Council approved a measure March 9 to ease the burden.
With council s unanimous vote, League City water customers bills for February will be capped at the second of four price tiers regardless of whether they used enough water to move them to a more expensive tier.
According to city officials, League City customers use about 10 million gallons of water a day. During the winter storm, that increased to a peak of nearly 25 million gallons in a single day, mostly due to residents running their faucets to prevent pipes from freezing and other residents experiencing burst pipes, officials said.

COVID-19 is posing yet another risk for seniors the risk of getting outcompeted for vaccine.
It began Jan. 19, when Pennsylvania, like many states, opened vaccine eligibility to everyone over 65 or chronically ill.
Because of vaccine scarcity and high demand, the unintended consequence has pitted older seniors against younger seniors in a race that can favor the swiftest with a computer.

City hears from public regarding water, sewer increases

Greenville City Council heard concerns from the public regarding legislation to increase water and sewer rates in Greenville. Council will consider the measure again Mar. 2.

GREENVILLE During its Tuesday night meeting, Greenville City Council heard from the public regarding the city’s proposed increase on water and sewer rates for infrastructure improvements.
The measure calls for water rates to increase 50 percent effective May 1, 2021, and an additional 18 percent Nov. 1, 2021. Sewer rates will increase 25 percent May 1, and 10 percent more on Nov. 1. The legislation will also have the city switch to monthly utilities billing, effective May 1.
