Multiple law enforcement agencies from across north Florida and South Georgia honored slain Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Captain Justin Bedwell as his body is brought home Tuesday morning. The procession escorted his body from Tallahassee, Florida, to Bainbridge, Georgia.
Captain Justin Bedwell succumbed to injuries that were sustained in the line of duty, Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Brinson, GA, while assisting Seminole County Sheriff’s Office in a high-speed chase where shots had been fired at Sheriff’s Deputies.
Sheriff Griffin posted the following statement to the DCSO Facebook page: Captain Bedwell is a 19-year veteran of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Bedwell is a Patrol Commander, Training Officer and a highly valued member of the Command Staff. He trained many of the younger deputies that currently work for this community. Dozens of law enforcement officers and first responders from across Georgia drove their vehicles in a procession, leading his body home from Tallahassee, where he died Monday.
Investigators said Captain Bedwell was critically injured when shot over the weekend while aiding Seminole County deputies trying to stop a car that fled a traffic stop.

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) â A town, thankful for Captain Justin Bedwell s service, stood by on the side of US Highway 84 in Bainbridge to welcome him home.
Gator Bryant, a Cairo tow truck driver who knew Captain Bedwell personally, blocked the middle lane coming into town with other drivers, wanting to be some of the first in Bainbridge to honor him. We all worked wrecks, we all worked scenes with him, he was just a good man, said Bryant.
With a flag raised above the highway, the procession started with lights and sirens from police motorcycles, followed by hearse carrying Captain Bedwell s casket.
Two men face felony murder charges in connection with the shooting of a Decatur County deputy who died Monday morning, according the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
