St Louis Blues Season Preview: New Captain, New Defense Corps

By Mike Wennmacher Jan 12, 2021 2:34 PM The St. Louis Blues enter this season with a new Captain as the team’s former Captain Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo signed with the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the offseason. As luck would have it though the Blues will now have to see their former Captain multiple times this season as the Blues play in the newly constituted Honda West Division of the NHL. The Blues new Captain is Ryan O’ Reilley. O’ Reilley was a key cog in the Blues Stanley Cup Run in 2019 and remains one of the best two way centers in the NHL. Joining O’Reilley up front is veteran David Perron as well as Vladimir Tarasenko. Tarasenko has battled injury the past two seasons and a bounce back year from him would really help the Blues fortunes. Jaden Schwartz is also a dangerous offensive player for the Blues as is recently signed Mike Hoffman. The Blues would also like to see young guys upfront like Jordan Kyru and Robert Thomas take the next step.
