MAPUTO, May 25 (Xinhua) Mozambique plans to start performing tests for new variants of COVID-19 in October this year, the national radio RM reported on Tuesday.
Work is expected to kick off as soon as conditions are created for the installation of a reference laboratory for testing variants of COVID-19 and other diseases in the country, the Director of Laboratories at the National Health Institute, Sofia Viegas, told the radio. Testing equipment is already in the country, and we are expecting specialists to come and train our professionals on how to handle the machinery and the reagents. We have also sent two laboratory technicians for training in Namibia. We are expecting to be all set to start working, said Viegas.
